The End

The Minnesota State Fair has come to a close.  I made a total of five visits to the fair, each visit lasting at least eight hours.  Today I offer some highlights.

Food is a major draw to the fair for most people.  I'm sorry to say I didn't get a lot of food photos because I didn't think of taking a picture until the food was all eaten.  Here's what I remembered to photograph before I ate it up...

chicken fried bacon with yummy maple dipping sauce

Danielson's onion rings

Pronto Pups...not corn dogs, not Poncho Dogs, not hot dog on a stick...Pronto Pups

Tom Thumb Donuts...not mini doughnuts...Tom Thumb Donuts

I tried a funnel cake for the first time and its charms eluded me.  Sorry funnel cake fans.

We also took strolls through the animal barns...

Don't worry about animals in cages ~ they are all very well cared for.  In fact, their human friends are often right there with them to make sure they are cleaned, fed, and watered.

The Midway...

It was a very good fair.  It always is.  It's a time when the people of Minnesota get together and coexist on a three-hundred-acre patch of land and have fun for a few hours.  It's a time to let your senses come alive...all of your senses.  Twelve days of overstimulation.

Of course the fair isn't for everyone.  Some complain of crowds.  Some complain of the cost.  But for millions of visitors it is a major highlight of the year.  A time to show off your funny t-shirts, to find out how out of shape you really are (I know my back and hips are feeling all that walking), and to connect to all of Minnesota.  It's also a wonderful place to spend time with people you like.

Goodbye, State Fair.  Now it's time to rest up for a minute, and only a minute, and get ready for winter.  Yep, it's a well-known fact that State Fair time is when you begin to put on your winter pounds with all that food on a stick in order to stay warm during the cold Minnesota winter.  I, for one, am feeling warm already.

I like the fair. It comes here this month and a friend of mine is playing guitar in the Beer Garden.

Mmm, everything is better with bacon. I'll have to try a homemade version of the bacon strips and maple dip. Is the dip savory (sour creamy) or sweet (marshmallowy)? Or, better yet (for the MN winter pounds)...maple buttery, like honey butter? Bacon and butter, life doesn't get any better.

Nano, I'm not really sure how to describe the sauce. It was sort of sweet, like a cream cheese, but thinner than cream cheese. Sort of a cross between all of your descriptions!

You're such a good cook you'd probably only have to taste it to know exactly what it's made of.
